The Extracellular Matrix (ECM), the gel-like substance that surrounds cells inside the human body, plays a critical role in regulating tissue development and homeostasis. The ECM provides a scaffold for tissue organization as well as biological and biochemical cues that direct cell behavior. Changes in these conditions (growth factors, cytokines, aberrant proteases, hormones, tissue architecture, etc) affect cell proliferation, growth suppression, apoptosis resistance, chronic inflammation, and cell invasion initiation which in turn influences the healthy or diseased-state of the patient.
The innovation of QGel is a novel method to synthetically create specialized ECMs that provide the necessary biological, biochemical and structural support to promote the physiologically accurate behavior of any cell type. This equips:
a) Drug developers with in vitro disease models that more closely approximate the human situation; and
b) Oncologists with improved clinical decision making tools for therapy recommendations.

Each QGel synthetic ECM is designed to support cell growth as well as the natural expression of the desired key biomarkers of the patient's originating tissue.
QGel deconstructs naturally occuring ECM macromolecules (Fibronectins, Laminins, Collagens, etc) into functional protein subunits that become the building blocks to create unique, synthetic Extracellular Matrices (ECMs)
Integrin binding sites, cell-cell binding sites, growth factors, etc
Matrix stiffness properties
Degradation properties, e.g. cell-mediated enzymatic degradation, self degrading (fast or slow), etc
These building blocks have been assembled in many different combinations to create an extensive library of synthetic ECM formulations. Watch the video below to learn how QGel screens its library to identify a unique formulation capable of supporting cell growth while maintaining the key features for any cell type.Watch ECM screening process
QGel's synthetic ECMs technology provides the ability to tune key factors of the ECM until the right combination is identified that supports physiologically accurate cell behavior.
Move the sliders above to see how the ECM can be tuned. At the right combination, the physiological feature will be expressed. Click the Discover button at the top to find the right combination for this particular cell type.
